WELCOME TO FOURTH GRADE!

Philosophy

Welcome to Fourth Grade! An emphasis is placed on becoming independent thinkers, workers, and problem solvers. Like other San Ramon Valley schools, we participate in New York Reading/Writing Project, which promotes an individualized approach to strengthening literacy skills. In addition, we have established Just Right Groups to support the language arts needs of our diverse population. The focus of fourth grade social studies is California geography, history, and government. The math program follows the California standards, including an emphasis on number sense, computation, geometry/measurement, fractions/decimals, algebraic thinking, and data analysis. Students attend Science Lab twice a week, with additional classroom activities and discussion.

WHAT DO WE LEARN IN FOURTH GRADE?

The FAIR Act
The California Education Code has been updated over time to make sure that the role and contributions of members of underrepresented racial, ethnic and cultural groups to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States are included in history and social studies lessons. The FAIR Education Act amends the Education Code by mandating California schools to also include the contributions of people with disabilities and members of the LGBT community in the curriculum.
